An accomplished public relations consultant and trainer, Leslie A.M. Smith is recognized for her ability to take complex concepts and explain them simply––without jargon and confusing acronyms. She is a fan favorite of both small business owners and local nonprofit promoters for providing no-nonsense promotional advice that really works.

A Southern California native, Smith began her career at an advertising agency in Orange County and soon made a shift to association management, serving as the communications director for a local association of Realtors and a statewide membership association for consulting engineers. In each of those industries, she promoted the collective successes pertaining to independent businesses ranging from one-person firms to multi-national corporations.

Since founding McCormick L.A. Public Relations in 1994, she has written dozens of marketing and promotional plans for a variety of local nonprofits, small “main street merchants,” and numerous solopreneurs in professional services. She has planned and implemented grand openings, groundbreakings, product launches, social initiatives, and other community relations activities that earned her clients front page and network news coverage.

She has successfully helped businesses from several industries including aerospace, food service, business associations, real estate, restaurants, medical devices, professional services, government agencies, and more. The outcomes have confirmed that no matter the industry or the size, applying the basic principles with savvy insight garner solid results.

Smith is the author of “Laws of Promotion,” a 50-page marketing guide directed specifically to small businesses and local nonprofits now available on Amazon.

With her breadth of experience, she is an expert at gaining an understanding of any business quickly. Researching the niche comprehensively, she helps her clients find their unique sales proposition then capitalizes on that. She is adept at utilizing a customized combination of traditional and digital media to help her clients meet their objectives.

Smith is a past president of the Junior League of Long Beach where she is still a member; has served on the Board of the Fairfield Family YMCA; the Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce; and held a variety of positions in the PTA including president.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and a Minor in American Studies from California State University, Fullerton, and a professional writing certificate from California State University, Long Beach. She is a proud resident of Long Beach, California where she and her husband (and their rescue dog) raised their two daughters. Smith is a trained facilitator and a seasoned presenter.
